  • Q: “What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?”

    Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a martial art and growing sport that teaches a smaller person how to defend himself against a larger adversary by using leverage and proper technique. The Gracie family, the founders of BJJ, modified judo and traditional Japanese jujutsu to create the art. It contains stand-up maneuvers, but it is most famous for its ground-fighting techniques. Gaining superior positioning, so one can apply the style’s numerous chokes, holds, locks and joint manipulations on an opponent, is the objective in sport Jiu-Jitsu.

  • Q: “What kind of physical shape does Brazilian Jiu Jitsu require?”

    You can start BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) no matter what kind of shape you're currently in, it's a great workout and you'll get in better shape in no time.

  • Q: “Do you have any women that train?”

    While the classes are mostly filled with men, there are women who participate and get a lot out of our BJJ classes, too. Everyone's focus is on learning BJJ, supporting one another, and having a great time. Gender isn't an issue.

  • Q: “I have a past injury / medical condition. What pre-cautions should I take before getting started?”

    Just talk to your doctor, and see what he/she says. If you get the o-k, come on in and get started. If there are conditions around your training - just let us know what your doctors says you can / can't do. We just want to make sure you're safe and have a great training experience.

  • Q: "How many classes per week do I need to attend in order to be successful in BJJ?"

    Consistency is the key to success in BJJ. Everyone has different goals, schedules and learn at different speeds each of which dictates the amount of classes they can attend per week. However many times you can make it to class per week... the key is to be consistent.

  • Q: “Are these classes only for competitive BJJ?”

    Not at all. We have a good blend of competitive students, hobbyists, and people just looking for a great workout.

  • Q: “What should I wear to my Intro Class? If I sign up?”

    During your trial class period you can wear comfortable workout clothes and a uniform will be provided for you if required for the class chosen. We have a variety of sizes and they are laundered daily. As a member of our BJJ program a uniform will be required which you can purchase yourself online or at our academy. Talk to the instructor regarding sizing and different uniform options.

  • Q: "I took a break from BJJ, will I have to start over at White Belt?"

    No. You will never lose the rank you earned coming to True JiuJitsu. No matter how long of a break you have had you do not lose the knowledge. You can expect that your timing may be off, you may feel a little rusty, but in due time you will be back in the swing of things.

  • Q: "I already own a unfiorm, Will i have to purchase a new one once i join your academy?"

    No, We have have an open GI policy; all brands and colors are welcome. However, consider our New Members start up offer which includes members first months dues and a new uniform for $199. That is a great savings as many uniforms can cost a minimum of $100 alone.

    In leu of a gi, a No-Gi uniform may be available. Quantities and sizes are limited.

    If interested, ask about pricing for both Gi and No-Gi uniforms if sizing is available.

  • Q: "What is your drop in fee?"

    Our drop in fee is $20. If you will be visiting for an extended period of time contact Kristina to ask about our special extended stay rates.

  • Q: “What's the class-environment like?”

    We have a great family friendly environment off the mats and on the mats the environment is supportive and helpful. We all have one goal and that is to make our training partners the best they can be. This creates a real sense of camaraderie & team - which is part of the awesome BJJ experience.

  • Q: “Do you have showers/changing areas?”

    Yes, we have a changing area and there is a shower located in the restroom. Towels and toiletries though are not provided.

  • Q: “Can I bring a friend?”

    Of course! We welcome you to bring a friend we only ask that you let us know beforehand so that a uniform can be reserved for you both.

  • Q: “Are parents welcome to stay and watch?”

    Yes, as parents ourselves we understand you wanting to ensure the safety and environment of where your child is training. We have seating available for those parents who wish to stay and watch- we only ask that if you not “coach” your children and if you have questions or comments regarding the class you speak with the instructor during rest periods or after class.

  • Q: “What forms of payment do you accept?”

    True JiuJitsu accepts all major credit cards, cash and personal checks. Speak with our staff regarding terms of billing agreement.

  • Q: “Can I enroll at any time?”

    We offer an open enrollment schedule. Today is always the best day to start! The instructor teaches each class so that techniques can be easily understood and practiced by each student whether it is their 1st day of class or whether they have BJJ experience.

  • Q: "What is the cost?"

    Monthly membership is $150.
